Timber & PVC Venetians

Basswood is similar in strength and density to Tasmanian Oak. As typical of a hardwood, it is exceptionally robust and does not mark easily unlike cedar.

 

Being white/cream in colour, Basswood stains evenly, giving a consistent colour tone. The time needed to grade slate is substantially reduced, as is the amount of unusable timber because of colour variation, a major problem with Western Red Cedar.

 

Basswood slat is delivered pre-stained and lacquered with a highly durable polyurethane finish. The only maintenance required is regular dusting, unlike oiled cedar slat which needs regular re-oiling.

 

Basswood timber blinds are quick to make. There is no sanding, oiling or painting required. Work area requirements are much reduced. Making timber blinds is more of an assembly process, like other types of blinds. The ‘cottage industry’ processing of sanding and painting is entirely removed.

 

Basswood is available in : Cherry, Maple, Pecan, Redwood, Pure White and Alabaster.

 

Slat, Bottom Rail and Valance are available in 6 lengths from 91cm (3ft) to 243cm (8ft). Carton quantities are 150 pieces for slat and 15 pieces for Bottom Rail and Valance.

The Shaw timber blind program utilizes Basswood pre-stained timber slat, bottom rail and valance. Basswood is the most commonly used timber for wood blinds in most countries of the world including the USA, for many good reasons:

 

Basswood, because of its short straight grain structure, is the most stable timber for wood blinds. Once properly kiln dried,  Basswood exhibits substantially less bowing than any other timber species commonly used.

SHAWWOOD VENETIAN BLIND SLAT IS MADE FROM A COMBINATION OF REAL WOOD MIXED WITH PVC RESINS, WHICH RESIST CRACKING, PEELING, FADING AND WARPING FOR THE LIFE OF THE BLIND. ShawWood is guaranteed for two years against defects in materials or workmanship.

ShawWood will not absorb moisture and can be used in areas where wood blinds are unsuitable such as bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.

 

Easy Clean

The sealed surface only needs regular dusting. Stubborn marks can be removed with a damp cloth.

 

Natural wood colour variation

Just like real wood, ShawWood slats in wood tones exhibit natural timber colour variations.

 

Advanced polymer technology

The wood composite formulation used in ShawWood was originally developed as an alternative for solid timber flooring. The hard surface resists normal damage caused by wear and tear and the slat has been tested for warping and fading to temperatures up to 60°C.
